Good bars, cafes or restaurants in the 'hood

Let's face it, most of the bars and restaurants in the Excelsior are pretty seedy.
Other than Joe's Cable Car, and Mom is Cooking, what would you recommend?

    We just checked out Zcaveche, on Mission, next door to the Royal Baking Company. It's good, cheap, and friendly. The food is Peruvian.

    And for coffee, we recommend Cafe Mama, which is right across the street from Zcaveche.

    Both of these are good neighborhod spots worth supporting.
